Short etymology:
For Heinrich Meyer (fl 1861–1886), German medical practitioner and amateur botanist. He graduated as an MD from the University of Würzburg (1861), then emigrated from Germany to the Cape and practiced medicine in Calvinia in the 1860s, later practising medicine at Cape Town in the 1880s. He collected in the Hantam Mountains, which are in the Namaqualand region of the Northern Cape Province where he found several new species which were sent to Berlin.
