Etymology of Rhoicissus:
Gk. rhoia = pomegranate; kissos = ivy; kissus = ivy. Most plants of this genus climb and have tendrils, but the reference to pomegranate is obscure.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
