Etymology of Rhus:
Gk. rhous, from rhodos = red (the word can be traced back for centuries); referring to the fruits or autumn leaves of some species.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
