Gk. schinos = a Greek word which seems to have an undefined meaning, used originally for Pistacia lenticus, the mastic tree.

From the Latin terebinth = 'the turpentine tree, Pistacia terebinthus' and folia = 'leaves'; i.e. leaves like that of Pistacia terebinthus
