Etymology of Schizoglossum:
Gk. schizo = split; glossa = a tongue. The corolla is lobed almost to its base in some species.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
