Etymology of Secamone:
Latinised from the Arabic name Secamone, which refers to S. aegyptiaca.
Etymology of afzelii:
Named after Adam Afzelius (1750-1837), a Swedish botanist and apostle of Carl Linnaeus. Between 1792 and 1796 he made two journeys to West Africa including Sierra Leone in which he collected plant specimens. Besides botanical writings, he also wrote the autobiography of Carl Linneaus in 1823.
