N.La. struma = cushion-shaped swelling of an organ from La. stroma = a tuberculosis or other swelling; -aria = relating to, possessing; referring to the conspicuously swollen base of all the flowers of this genus (Plantzafrica.com).

From the Latin lutea = yellow andĀ lobusĀ = lobes in reference to the lemon yllow colour of the tepals during early floweringg stage.
