For Karl Suessenguth (1893–1955), German botanist, professor of botany at the University of München (1927–1955). His research centred on botanical systematics and the chemical physiology of plants. In the 1930s, he succeeded Gustav Hegi as editor and also contributed to the Illustrated Flora of Central Europe. A prolific author, he wrote Ziele der Neue Botanik (1939), Nachruf (1955) with Hermann Merxmüller, and A Contribution to the Flora of the Marandellas District, Southern Rhodesia, also with Merxmüller. From 1946 until he died, he was director of the Botanical State Collection in Munich. Under his aegis, the state library began publishing its own annual journal. In 1949, he was appointed honorary professor.
