Etymology of Synaptophyllum:
Gk. synaptos = joined; phyllon = leaf; referring to the leaves that are joined at the base.
Etymology of juttae:
Named after Jutta Dinter (1871-1949), the wife of Professor Dinter (1868-1945), who was resident in Namibia from 1897-1914 and was the first botanist appointed by the German colonial administration in Namibia at the time.
