Gk. trichos = hair, hairy; kaulos = stem; referring to the hairy stem.
Etymology of sinus-luederitzii:
Named after either the town or Franz Adolf Eduard Luderitz (1834-1886) after whom the Namibian town of Luderitz is named. Franz was a German merchant and pioneer.
