Short etymology:
Gk. tri- = three; clissa (old Latin name) = key. Perhaps referring to ‘the three outer petals united into a straight cylindrical tube considerably beyond their middle, while its three inner petals are quite separate and loose both from the outer and from each other’ (The Genera of Plants, 75, 1866, Richard Anthony Salisbury).
