Gk. tri- = three; pteron = wing; referring to the fruits that are three-winged, so are easily dispersed by wind.

Twiggy shrublet to 50 cm. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, toothed, fleshy. Flower heads radiate, 1--few at the branch tips, yellow. Achenes 9--12 mm long. June--Sept. Rocky clay flats and slopes, NW, KM, SE (S Namibia to Uniondale and Karoo).
