Short etymology:
Georg Christian Wittstein suggests this is an Arabic name. Turia is also the name of an Indian vegetable, badam beerakaaya (almond turia). The synonym genus of Turia is called Luffa. At least two species of this tropical vine provide fruit, luffa (gourds), which are eaten as a vegetable, while Vietnamese luffa or Chinese okra (also spelled loofah) seem very similar.
