Etymology of Urera:
La. urere = to burn; urens = stinging. These relatives of stinging nettles are armed with some of the most painful stinging hairs known on their leaves and stem (Jackson).

From the Latin 'tri-' meaing three and 'nervus' meaning nerve, refers to the vieins of the leaves.
