Probably for James Raymond Wellsted (1805–1842), surveyor and traveller. He was appointed second lieutenant of the East India Company’s surveying ship Palinurus, which made a survey of the Gulf of Aqaba, and the northern part of the Red Sea (1830) and southern coast of Arabia (1833). He spent two months exploring the island of Socotra and twice visited Oman, in 1835 and 1837, before retiring from service in 1839 for health reasons. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (1837) and Royal Astronomical Society in London.
