Gk. xysma = filings, shavings; lobion = dim. of lobos = pod, capsule; referring to the fragmented lobes of the corona.
Etymology of pearsonii:
Named after Professor Henry Harold Welch Pearson (1870-1916), the first director of Kirstenbosch Botanic Garden in South Africa.
