Etymology of Ziziphus:
Arabic zizouf = the name for the lotus or ‘jujube tree’, Z. lotus (syn. Z. jujuba). The tree has dark red edible fruits, from which the Victorian sweet ‘jujube’ originated (Jackson).
Etymology of mucronata:
From the Latin mucronatus = ‘sharp pointed’.
