Etymology of Acmena:
Gk. acmenae = mythological name for the very beautiful nymphs attending Venus. The flowers and fruits are attractive.
Etymology of gerrardii:
Named after naturalist and traveller William Tyrer Gerrard (?-1866) who collected in KwaZulu-Natal in 1860.
