Etymology of Acrolophia:
Gk. akros = at the tip, end; lophos = crest; akrolophia = mountain ridge; referring to the raised edges (crests) on the flower’s lip or habitat. ‘Alluding either to the keels on the lip or, more probably, to the mountainous habitat of all the species.’ (Pfitzer, 1888–1889).
Etymology of paniculata:
From the Latin paniculatus meaning 'tufted' or a 'panicle' referring to the form of the inflorescence
