Short etymology:
For Jean Louis Calandrini (1703–1758), Swiss scientist and professor of mathematics and philosophy at Geneva (1734–1750). He obtained a PhD in physics from the academy in Geneva in 1722, wrote on such subjects as the aurora borealis, comets, the effects of lightning, and flat and spherical trigonometry as well as a commentary on Isaac Newton’s Principia.
