Etymology of Chaetobromus:
Gk. khaite = a bristle; bromos = a kind of oat; referring to the bristly hairs at the internodes.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
