Etymology of Chilianthus:
Gk. khilioi, chili- = thousand; anthus = flower, hence ‘thousand-flowered’. According to David Gledhill’s The Names of Plants, ‘Chiliarchus was in charge of 1 000 men’, hence ‘thousandflowered’ – but the spelling of the name is incorrect.
