Etymology of Cleistanthus:
Gk. kleistos = closed; anthos = flower, hence ‘hidden flower’. The flowers are hidden by the prominent, hairy bracts.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
