Etymology of Cymbopogon:
Gk. kumbe = boat; pogon = bearded; referring to the boat-shaped spatheoles which subtend the hairy racemes.
Etymology of suaveolens:
From the Latin ‘suave’ = ‘pleasantly’; and the Latin ‘olens’ = ‘smelling’. i.e. pleasant smelling.
