Gk. kymodoke (Cymodoce) one of the Nereids (goddesses) of ‘steadying the waves’ who, with her sisters Amphitrite and Kymatolege, possessed the power to still the winds and calm the sea. (Hesiod, Homer, Hyginus, Virgil). Inference unclear.
