Etymology of Ecbolium:
Gk. ekbole = expulsion; from ekballein = to cast out. The seeds are expelled violently when the fruits open.
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
