Gk. (h)edys = sweet; arum = ‘description of’; an ancient Greek name for the common European Asarum (ginger). The seeds of some species of Hedysarum are toxic.
Etymology of repandum:
Latin, from Greek helikhrusos, from helix ‘spiral’ + khrusos ‘gold’. It originally denoted a yellow-flowered plant, possibly Helichrysum stoechas .
