Etymology of Hibiscus:
Gk. hibiskos = name for the ‘marsh-mallow’ used by Virgil (Palmer), possibly derived from Gk. ibis = a stork that fed on some species of mallow.
Etymology of merxmuelleri:
Named after Herman Merxmuller, born 1920 in Munchen. Visited South West Africa five times and edited the Prodomus of the flora of SWA.
