Etymology of Hymenophyllum:
Gk. hymen = membrane; phyllon = leaf; said to refer to the very thin translucent tissue of the fronds, thus the common name filmy fern.
Etymology of aeruginosum:
From the Latin aeruginosus = 'verdigris-coloured' or 'deep green with a mixture of blue', akin to the green rust on copper
