Etymology of Hypertelis:
Gk. hyper- = above; telos = end, consummation; referring to the fleshy leaves.
Etymology of salsoloides:
From it's resemblance to the genus Salsola (Chenopodiaceae), -oides is Latin for "resembles"

Dwarf, tufted, blue-glaucous shrublet to 30 cm, often much-grazed. Leaves terete, fleshy. Flowers in umbels on slender, glandular peduncles, white to pink, sepals reflexed, pedicels deflexed on fading, stamens 12--15. Sept--Mar. Dry calcareous and saline flats, NW, KM, SE (Namibia to Clanwilliam, Little Karoo to Zimbabwe).
