Etymology of Isoetes:
Gk. isos = the same, equal, identical; etos = the year (etas = green); referring to the ‘evergreen’ character of the plant; some of the species have the same look throughout the year.
Etymology of transvaalensis:
From the former Transvaal Province of South Africa; now Gauteng Province. Trans meaning 'across', and vaal refers to the Vaal River, it being on the far side of the river from the Cape.
