Etymology of Kobresia:
For Paul von Kobres (Cobres) (1747–1823), Austrian botanist, plant collector, geologist, mineralogist, banker and patron of botany. He was the owner of a rich natural history collection and library, which was purchased in 1811 for the Bavarian Academy of Sciences.
Etymology of spartea:
From the Greek spartos, a shrub known as Spanish Broom (Spartium junceum), referring to the resemblance of this species to the Spanish Broom.
