Erect or sprawling shrublet with maroon internodes, branches to 12 cm long; roots thickened and turnip-shaped. Leaves subulate, recurved, scabrid, to 12 2 mm. Flowers solitary, purplish pink. Fruits with large rectangular valve wings. Sept. Stony slopes, NW (Hex River Mts: Warm Bokkeveld).
