Etymology of Lotus:
Gk. lotos, but of semitic origin, a name used by Theophrastus for the legendary fruit eaten by the lotophagi, which could produce a state of intoxicated relaxation, euphoria, dreaminess and forgetfulness.
Etymology of barberae:
Named after naturalist, writer and painter Mrs F.W. Barber, or the pioneering plant collector in South Africa, Mary Elizabeth Barber (nee Bowker)
