Etymology of Metalasia:
Gk. meta- = meaning reverse; lasios = shaggy, woolly. The leaves are twisted, rolled upward, to present the woolly side of the leaf from the top to the bottom.

From the Latin strictus = ‘compressed’ or 'constricted'
