Etymology of Oncosiphon:
Gk. onkos = bulb, swollen mass; siphon = tube. The base of the corolla tube is tumorous (swollen).
Etymology of schlechteri:
Named in honour of the German Rudolf Schlecter (1872-1925) and his brother Max (1874-1960), renowned plant collectors from South Africa.
