Etymology of Peperomia:
Gk. peperi = pepper; (h)omoios = resembling. A small fleshy-leaved tropical plant of the pepper family. Many are grown as houseplants, chiefly for their decorative foliage (Wikipedia.org). This genus is related to and closely resembles the true peppers, Piper spp.
Etymology of mannii:
Named after Gustav Mann (1835-1916) horticulturist who joined Kew in 1859, collected in West Africa and worked as a forestor in India
