Etymology of Psednotrichia:
Gk. psednos = scanty, spare, thin; trichion = small hair; referring to the scant pubescence of the plants, which are glabrous except for the distinct or tiny tufts of fine hairs in the leaf-axils (Bertil Nordenstam).

From the Latin australis = ‘south’; Frequently referring to South Africa though may refer to Southern Cape, Southern Africa or the Southern Hemisphere.
