Short etymology:
For Benedetto Luigi Puccinelli (1808–1850), Italian botanist, professor of botany at the University of Lucca and director of the botanical garden of Lucca from 1830–1850. He wrote a book about the flora of the Lucca, the two-volume Synopsis Plantarum in agro Lucensi sponte nascentium (The History of Plants Born in the Territory of Lucca) (1841).
