Etymology of Pueraria:
For Marc Nicolas Puerari (1766–1845), Swiss botanist, pupil of Danish-Norwegian botanist and zoologist Martin Vahl Hendrickson in Copenhagen; a political refugee from Geneva. He came to Copenhagen in 1794 where he became tutor to the merchant Fr. de Coninck and later professor of French at Copenhagen University. In 1820 he returned to Geneva, and left his herbarium to a younger compatriot, Alphonse Louis Pierre Pyrame de Candolle (1806–1893), but retained links with Denmark and in 1826–1828 was advisor and French teacher for Prince Frederik VIII.
