Etymology of Quisqualis:
From the Malay name udani, which Rumphius (1627–1702) translated into Dutch, in a play on words, as hoedanig (Dutch = how, what), and then translated that into Latin as quis = who? qualis = what? This was possibly a reference to the variability of features in this genus, which made it difficult to classify.
Etymology of parviflora:
From the Latin parvus = ‘small’ and flora = ‘flower’.
