For Otto Renner (1883–1960), German botanist, geneticist and bacteriologist, professor of plant physiology and pharmacognosy (1913) in Munich and professor of botany at Jena (1920–1948), where he was also director of the Botanical Garden of Jena. He undertook research in Algeria (1914) and Java, Bali, Sumatra and Ceylon (1930–1931). In addition to his numerous publications, he was the editor of Flora from 1933–1944. His laboratory was totally destroyed during the war. Thereafter, he edited Plant from 1947–1956 and Fortschritte der Botanik (Botanical Progress) from 1949–1955.
