For Karel van Sint Omaars (Omaers) (c 1532 or 1533–1569), Flemish nobleman, botanist, and botanical illustrator, otherwise known as Charles de Saint Omer van Dranouter, Renouteren, Reynoutre van Reynoutre in West Flanders. He studied at the University of Leuven, and entered the military before becoming incapacitated by disease. He spent the rest of his life in the castle of Moerkerke, and was devoted to botany and botanical painting. Carolus Clusius commissioned him to illustrate his book Centuriae Plantarum Rariorum, but civil war and Omaars’s early death prevented full completion. Most of the paintings that make up a collection called Libri Picturati, created between 1564 and 1569, and now housed in Krakow, were commissioned by Karel van Sint Omaars, painted for the greater part by Jacques van Corenhuyse, annotated by Clusius, and afterwards rearranged and supplemented by Karel van Arenberg.
