Short etymology:
For Heinrich Bernhard Rupp (Ruppius, Ruppee) (1688–1719), German physician and botanist. He studied medicine at the Universities of Giessen (1704), Jena (1711), Leiden (1712), and again in Jena (1713). Rupp wrote Flora Jenensis (1718), describing the flora around Jena and a large part of Thuringia (one of the federal states of Germany), with a second edition being published after his death (1726). A further expanded edition was completed in 1745 by Albrecht von Haller (1708–1777).
