Etymology of Santolina:
La. sanctus = holy; linum = flax; referring to the herb’s reputed medicinal properties. There are other derivations. Unfortunately, Linnaeus does not explain the name.
Etymology of capitata:
From the Latin capitatus meaning ‘equipped with a head’, tyically referring to the arrangement of the flowers in a head-like inflorescence.
