Etymology of Santolina:
La. sanctus = holy; linum = flax; referring to the herb’s reputed medicinal properties. There are other derivations. Unfortunately, Linnaeus does not explain the name.

From the Latin crenatus = ‘notched' or 'battlemented', like the wall of a castle
