Seriph is a stroke or line of a letter, from La. scribere = to write. The pattern of the closely knit, wiry branches form straight ‘lines’ at right angles to the stem.
Etymology of capitatum:
From the Latin capitatus meaning ‘equipped with a head’, tyically referring to the arrangement of the flowers in a head-like inflorescence.
