Etymology of Stipagrostis:
Stipa (q.v.); Agrostis (q.v.). The two ‘conjoined’ genera have common characteristics, such as feathery awns.
Etymology of schaeferi:
Named after Dr Fritz Schafer (1881-1930), a medical practitioner on the Keetmanshoop-Luderitz railway line in Namibia and in the diamond fields until 1914. An amateur plant collector, he especially collected in the Klein Karas area of Namibia.
