For Jacob Sturm (1771–1848), German engraver, naturalist and botanical artist. He learned the art of drawing and copperplate engraving from his father, Johan Georg Sturm. When aged 16, he met botanist Johann Christian Daniel Schreber (1739–1810) and the entomologist Georg Wolfgang Franz Panzer (1755–1829), and worked for them. In 1791–1792 he published Insekten-Cabinet nach der Natur Gezeichnet und Gestochen, and with Panzer, undertook a 20-year project, Faunae Insectorum Germanicae Initia (1792–1813), featuring 2 600 insects with Panzer’s short textual descriptions. Sturm also produced his own insect catalogue, which went through four editions. He was a founding member of Naturhistorische Gesellschaft zu Nürnberg in 1801.
