Etymology of Tragus:
Gk. tragus = goat or hairy part of the ear. Also possibly Hieronymus Tragus (Hieronymus Jerome Bock) (1498–1554); see Tragia; alluding to the similarity of the leaf hairs and spikelet bristles to a goat’s beard.
